2011 Oscars Collection
Ethical style is making it big time - gracing the red carpets of film premieres and hollywood events, and CRED Jewellery was paraded at the Oscars 2011.
Livia Firth, wife of Oscar winning actor Colin Firth, has been undertaking a Green Carpet Challenge, wearing only ethical, upcycled or fairtrade dresses and acessories as she accompanies her husband to all the awards ceremonies, film premieres and celebrity parties. She is blogging about all her expolits and decision making on Vogue.com
As Colin was making all the headlines with his performance in The King's Speech, Livia knew she was going to have to up the stakes in terms of her outfit choices and so comissioned Jewellery designer Anna Loucah to create her bespoke pieces for the Golden Globes and then the Oscars.
A momentous night, the Oscars red carpet 2011 saw the first ever jewellery hallmarked as certified Fairtrade and Fairmined gold. In collaboration with Anna, CRED created a stunning set of earrings and a ring from 18ct white Fairtrade gold, ethical diamonds and fabulous Aquamarines of a dusky green tint.
CRED have long championed the campaign for Fairtrade gold and we were honoured that fairtrade jewellery we created was the first ever to be hallmarked as Fairtrade Fairmined Ecological gold. Fairtrade Fairmined Ecological gold means that along with delivering improvements in the working conditions of the miners and a 10% premium as a Fair trade standard, the gold is also mined under strict environmental management with miners receiving an additional 5% ecological premium to ensure no harmful chemicals are used during the metal extraction.
The Oscars earrings and cocktail ring set was named 'Juana' after the female Bolivian miner, Juana Pena Endova, who attended the launch of the Fairtrade gold standard in February 2011. Inspired by Livia’s own engagement ring ‘Juana’ is a set of outstanding beauty and elegance. Anna used the Fairtrade 18ct white gold along with diamonds from the Liqhobong Women Miners Cooperative in Lesotho to embellish 35 carats of the most exquisite traceable aquamarines from Lundazi, a community mine in Zambia.
